Am I covered by Tranche 2?
Tranche 2 depends on the services you provide, not your job title. Many accountants who only do tax returns aren't covered; one company set-up can change that. Tick what you do and get a clear answer.
The scope check needs JavaScript. You can also read the Tranche 2 overview or contact us.
General information, not legal advice. Your answers are a self-assessment; responsibility for deciding whether you are covered stays with your business.

Questions
Do I need to enrol with AUSTRAC?
If you provide a designated service you must enrol, no later than 28 days after you start providing it. Whether a service is designated depends on what you do for clients, not on your profession. Use the check above, and read AUSTRAC’s guidance for your sector.
Do accountants need to enrol with AUSTRAC?
Only if they provide a designated service, such as setting up companies or trusts, handling client money or helping with business or property sales. Tax returns and bookkeeping on their own are usually outside the regime.
Do lawyers need to enrol with AUSTRAC?
Lawyers who act in property transfers, hold client money, or set up companies and trusts for clients generally provide designated services. Litigation and general advice on their own usually do not.
Who is affected by Tranche 2?
Lawyers, conveyancers, accountants, real estate agents and some other professions, for the designated services they provide. The obligations started on 1 July 2026.
I got a notice from AUSTRAC. What now?
Read the notice, note the response date and respond by it, with legal advice if you are unsure. See our page on what to do after an AUSTRAC notice.
