What the estimate covers, and what it leaves out
The calculator multiplies your monthly volume for each check by the per-check price on the ScreenlyyID pricing page. It reads from the same figures, so the result updates when pricing does. This page deliberately quotes no prices. If a number here disagreed with the pricing page, the pricing page would be right.
The output is the cost of the verification checks themselves. It does not include your own costs around them:
- Analyst time spent on manual review of referred cases.
- Engineering time to integrate the API.
- Any taxes that apply to your invoice.
- Retries, if customers submit a second document or selfie and you run the checks again.
Add a buffer for retries and referrals to your volume. Most teams under-estimate them.
Choose the checks by risk level
The most reliable way to control cost is to match the check to the risk of the customer or transaction, not to run every check on everyone. Use the table as a starting point for the inputs. It is not a legal standard. Regulated firms must follow their own regulator's requirements.
| Risk level | Typical situation | Checks to model |
|---|---|---|
| Lower | Low-value accounts, no regulatory KYC duty, fraud and bot control | Email, phone and, if you ship goods, address validation |
| Medium | Regulated onboarding with a standard customer profile | Database (eIDV) check plus AML screening |
| Higher | Remote onboarding with no database match, higher-value accounts, elevated fraud exposure | Document plus selfie (with liveness), eIDV, AML screening, contact validation |
A common pattern is tiered. Every applicant gets a database check, and only those who fail to match, or who are higher risk, step up to document plus selfie. In the calculator, that means entering a smaller volume for the more expensive check. See eIDV and document authentication for how each works, and AML screening for sanctions and PEP checks.
What counts as a check
For estimating, treat each separate verification request as a line item: one database lookup, one document-plus-selfie session, one AML screen, one email, phone or address validation. The calculator has one input per type, so you can see which line drives your total.
Multi-step journeys need care. If your flow runs a document check, a selfie match and an AML screen on one customer, enter each type separately. Confirm exactly how each is billed on the pricing page before you budget around it.
Worked examples at three volumes
These are illustrative scenarios, not customer data or quotes. They show how to count line items. Multiply each count by the current price on the pricing page, or enter the counts into the calculator.
| Scenario | New customers per month | Line items per month |
|---|---|---|
| Small, lower risk | 500 | 500 eIDV, 500 email, 500 phone |
| Mid-size, tiered | 5,000 | 5,000 eIDV, 1,000 document plus selfie (the 20% who step up), 5,000 AML screens, 5,000 email |
| Larger, higher risk | 50,000 | 50,000 document plus selfie, 50,000 AML screens, 50,000 email, 50,000 phone |
The 20% step-up rate in the middle row is an assumption. Your match rate depends on your market, the data available for your customers and the quality of the details they enter. Run the calculator at two or three step-up rates to see how sensitive your total is. In the larger scenario, the biggest lever is whether every customer really needs the document step.
How this differs from contract-based vendors
Many identity verification vendors sell annual contracts with committed volumes or platform fees, and you negotiate the price. That can suit a stable, high-volume business. It is harder for a team whose volume is uncertain, because you pay for volume you may not use, or you face overage terms.
ScreenlyyID publishes per-check prices and offers self-serve sign-up, so you can estimate spend before talking to anyone. Cost then follows the volume you actually run. If you need custom volume terms or dedicated support, see the enterprise page. For market-wide pricing models, read identity verification services: models, pricing and compliance. For whether to run verification in-house at all, see the Build vs Buy KYC article.
Use the number
Run a conservative, an expected and a high-volume case. Check the line items against the checks you need by risk level, then compare the total with your current spend or with a vendor quote. For tools that sit around verification, see KYC screening tools. The wider topic is in the KYC hub, and the identity verification product page covers the capabilities behind each input.
Frequently asked questions
How much does KYC cost per month?
It depends on your volume and which checks you run, so there is no single figure. Enter your monthly customer count and check mix into the calculator, which applies the per-check prices published on the pricing page. Remember to add your own review and integration costs.
What counts as a check?
For estimating, each separate verification request is one line item: a database lookup, a document-plus-selfie session, an AML screen, or an email, phone or address validation. Confirm how multi-step verifications are billed on the pricing page before you finalise a budget.
Which checks do I actually need?
Match the check to the risk. Lower-risk sign-ups may need only email and phone validation, regulated onboarding usually needs a database check and AML screening, and higher-risk or no-match cases step up to document plus selfie. Your regulator's rules decide the minimum, so check them with the regulator or legal counsel.
Are there minimums or setup fees?
ScreenlyyID prices per check with self-serve sign-up and no minimum spend. The pricing page is the place to confirm current terms, including any setup fees. Custom commitments for large volumes are handled through the enterprise page.
